MARINMARIN was a two-year research project that explored the possibilities of using augmented reality in a demanding shipyard setting. The project ran for two years between 2012 and 2014.

During the project, several demonstrators were created to showcase solutions to specific use cases. Features in the main demonstrators include work documentation tools and structural inspection tools with support for creating virtual notes and opening requests.

Additional demonstrators also branched during the development of the main demonstrators. These demonstrators targeted very specific areas that required further research. Examples include two Leap Motion demonstrators, an head-mounted display user interface demonstrator and several coarse positioning demonstrators (with RFID- and accelerometer-based tracking).

More information about MARIN can be found on the research project’s homepage.
