Finding out basic information like location and orientation and finding metadata about structures often requires time, varying measurements or contacting a person with appropriate knowledge. Augmented reality excels at connecting location and information in a natural way, making it a perfect fit for industrial usage. <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"http:\/\/tt.utu.fi\/ar\/research\/marin\/\" target=\"_blank\">MARIN<\/a> research project studied augmented reality in a marine industry setting, while MARIN2 will expand the previous work to a broader industry setting. Successful implementation of augmented reality in professional use could streamline the workflow of planners, supervisors and workers alike, leading to major savings in time and cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Augmented reality applications could make it possible that all required information is always up to date and conveniently accessible on construction sites. This would greatly reduce the amount of manual work required for optimizing and translating the information between separate mediums. Furthermore, by connecting the technical details to the actual objects via augmented reality, the solutions could greatly improve the communication between planners, construction workers, and maintenance personnel. Even with the focus in industrial usage, much of the research in MARIN2 will also benefit augmented reality research in general.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In MARIN2, the results of the previous project are taken to a new level and applied in the fields of construction engineering and infrastructure construction. Augmented reality research will be done in the fields of user experience, visual tracking, hardware acceleration and data integration.
